Medellin, Colombia articles
Medellin, Colombia is the capital of Antioquia and something of an anomaly in the country. Known for a number of things (climate, transportation, cleanliness, agriculture) perhaps Medellin’s most famous allure is its once-mysterious history to drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.
Medellin is Colombia’s second largest city with around 3.5 million inhabitants all of which is visible from the panoramic Cerro Nutibara lookout point. Medellin is also something of a college town with three universities and a bevy of smart shops frequented by the tourist and local alike. Medellin, with all its stars aligned, possesses what some consider to be Colombia’s best upcoming foreigner investment potential.
It's reputation for perfect weather earned it the name "the City of Eternal Spring," which has begun to attract foreigners and even retirees priced out of otherwise mild-hotspots in the USA such as California and Florida. One of Medellin's biggest tourist traps is the Pueblito Paisa in the Nutibara barrio, a plastic rendition of a traditional Colombian plaza with touristy shops and fake dioramas: the kind of place you should tell your tour guide to skip. That being said, the area adjacent is panoramic and picturesque. In terms of transportation, and compared to other similarly positioned South American cities, Medellin’s metro is kick-ass, a testament to the city’s industrial spirit. Medellin is clean yet not sterile, modern and refreshingly historic.
